How to fight bacteria and germs in the kitchen

Bacteria, germs, and microorganisms in food and waste contaminate your refrigerator, countertops, appliances, kitchen utensils, sinks, drains, and more. The following tips and Pur dishwashing liquid will help you keep dishes, utensils and surfaces clean.

How do germs spread?

In general, germs spread by touch, but they can also spread through the air depending on their type. To prevent germs from spreading in your kitchen, follow these simple tips:

  • Always wash your hands before preparing food.
  • Use a variety of cutting boards for meat and vegetables.
  • Wash your hands immediately after touching the trash can.
  • Wash your hands between activities, such as preparing raw chicken and slicing salad products.
  • Wash your forks and knives without rushing. Their grooves and blades can contain germs and bacteria.

Keep towels, sponges and other kitchen utensils free from bacteria and germs

Germs present in a kitchen sink can spread and contaminate dishwashing utensils. They can stick to a dish cloth, sponge, dish brush, rubber gloves and even kitchen towels. Here are some tips for keeping these devices free from bacteria and germs:

  • To properly clean the sponges after washing, you can soak them in a bleach solution for 5 minutes or alternatively in a vinegar solution for 20 minutes. Remember to rinse them thoroughly and place them next to a sink to dry.
  • Regularly wash the dish brush to get rid of bacteria. For best results, choose a nylon bristle brush. They are less susceptible to bacteria.
  • Rubber gloves are inexpensive, but it's important to rid them of germs so they're ready to use. Provide one pair of gloves for use in the kitchen (do not mix them with toilet cleaning mitts).
  • Rinse the gloves thoroughly after each use. Remember that washing up liquid and hot water help get rid of some bacteria. Dry the gloves thoroughly before putting them away, as moisture can affect the spread of bacteria.
  • Regularly wash and disinfect your kitchen towels and dish cloths, even if they don't seem dirty. Wash them at the highest possible temperature to disinfect them.

Washing the kitchen with dishwashing liquid

You can also use Pur dishwashing liquid to clean your kitchen . Using liquid and hot water, you can thoroughly clean surfaces in the kitchen, such as countertops, cutting boards, the stove and cooktops. They should be cleaned regularly. To kill bacteria and reduce the risk of cross-contamination, you can also disinfect surfaces after cleaning with a safe disinfectant or bleach. Cutting boards, especially wooden ones, should be replaced regularly as germs can spread on them.

Remember that you must also wash and dry your washing utensils, including mops and buckets, every time you clean your kitchen with dishwashing liquid. Also, don't forget to scrub the floor, which is equally susceptible to germs.
